KNINDEX

Korea Nutrition Index

Same ingredient, countless products. We build the standard for choosing.

KNI scores the four core anti-ageing ingredients on dose, purity, impurity testing and raw-material grade against published criteria, then issues a grade. Choose on verified data, not on advertising.

Anti-ageing ingredients

KNI does not sell supplements. We build the standard for choosing them. Effective dose, purity and impurity testing, raw-material grade, manufacturing certification and information transparency — the full methodology is public. Every figure is scored against the brand's official listing and published test results.

β-Nicotinamide Mononucleotide

nmn

NMN is a direct NAD+ precursor; raising blood NAD+ at 250–1,000 mg/day is the most consistently reproduced human finding (2024 meta-analysis: 12 RCTs, n=513). Muscle insulin sensitivity improved in peri-menopausal women at 250 mg for 10 weeks (Yoshino 2021, Science), and no serious adverse events were reported up to 1,200 mg/day for 24 weeks. However, a 2025 meta-analysis in older adults found no significant gain in muscle mass or grip strength — NAD+ elevation is established, functional benefit is still under study. What matters when choosing: published β-purity ≥99%, an actual daily dose of ≥250 mg, and price per 100 mg.

Creatine Monohydrate

creatine

Creatine monohydrate has the strongest evidence base in sports nutrition; the ISSN calls it one of the most effective and safest supplements available (ISSN 2017). The newer frame is that it is no longer just a sports supplement: a single dose under sleep deprivation improved cognitive processing and brain energy metabolism (Scientific Reports, 2024), and women may benefit more because stores run lower across the life cycle (Smith-Ryan 2021). Quality is decided by synthesis by-products: USP-DSC caps creatinine at 0.1%, while Creapure® holds 0.005–0.01% — 10–20× stricter. Loading is unnecessary; consistency at 3 g (women) or 5 g (men) is what matters.

L-Glutathione (reduced, GSH)

glutathione

Glutathione is the body's principal endogenous antioxidant, involved in hepatic detoxification and oxidative-stress defence; oral supplementation raised blood and tissue GSH in human studies (250–1,000 mg over 6 months, Richie et al., 2015). Skin-related human research is accumulating but uses small samples over short periods. What matters when choosing: the reduced form (GSH) stated explicitly rather than oxidised (GSSG), actual GSH content rather than "yeast extract 00 mg", and an absorption design such as liposomal or sublingual. Glutathione is not an approved functional ingredient in Korea.

Berberine HCl

berberine

Berberine is an alkaloid extracted from Coptis and related plants; studies in type 2 diabetes repeatedly report improvements in fasting glucose, HbA1c and lipid markers (notably Yin et al., Metabolism, 2008, at 1,500 mg/day divided). The mechanism is attributed to AMPK activation and gut-microbiome modulation. Social media calls it "nature's Ozempic", but clinical commentary such as UCLA Health concludes weight loss is far more modest than with GLP-1 drugs. What matters when choosing: actual berberine HCl content rather than "Coptis extract 00 mg", ≥97% standardisation, and an absorption design such as phytosome. Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding; consult a professional if taking glucose-lowering medication.

What doesKNI score?

Five criteria, one rubric. The same 100-point scorecard applies to every ingredient and every product, on a single principle: only what is disclosed and evidenced counts. A product that withholds purity, dose or test results cannot be verified, and so cannot reach a top grade.

KNI Grades
  1. 01 Effective dose

    30

Does the actual daily intake reach the dose range used in human studies — not the number in the product name?

  2. 02 Purity & impurity testing

    25

Published purity figures plus third-party COA, with verifiable impurity and heavy-metal testing.

  3. 03 Manufacturing & safety certification

    20

cGMP/FDA-registered facilities, ingredient-specific certifications (Self-GRAS, NSF), and toxicology data (GLP).

  4. 04 Raw-material grade

    15

Named ingredient brand — whether a verified supplier such as Creapure®, Uthever® or Setria® is used.

  5. 05 Information transparency

    10

Full ingredient and dose disclosure, convertible labelling, and claims free of exaggeration.
